4CP screen "Mister Angerhead"

"Mister Angerhead" is kicking off its Virginia tour! The full-length feature movie by the filmmakers behind "Still Life with Donuts" (the local documentary about Charlottesville's unique Belmont neighborhood), will have its first screenings Sept. 26-27 at the Four County Players in Barboursville.
It's Good vs. Evil in "Mister Angerhead," seen through a Southern Gothic lens. Rich shots of scarred red earth, railroad tracks overgrown by kudzu, an old coal tower, and the mindless insanity of bugs and soulless weeds, pins you down to a small Southern town. But don't start sipping Mint Juleps just yet - Mark Edwards' directing has been likened to the disconcerting style of David Lynch, his screenwriting is reminiscent of the spare spots of dialogue in a Mamet film, and the hyper-real cinematography and sex-crazed-cicada filled audio design keep you pressed into a thick pillow of sound. The result is a creepy, funny tale reminiscent of your scariest campfire stories.
Local actors bring the story to life: Leo Arico, a Live Arts veteran, is "Mister Angerhead;" Heather Lebowski, a notable child actress all grown-up, is the female lead; Jamie Dyer of the Hogwaller Ramblers plays her no-good husband; Dan Stern (a regular player at the Four County Players, Live Arts and the New Lyric Theater) is the detective; Spencer Lathrop, journeyman drummer and music journalist, plays a paraplegic taxidermist and the film's producer Mary Michaud, also acts, playing the social worker.
Original music written and performed by local musicians sets the tone for "Mister Angerhead." The score includes Old-Time mountain themes, Cajun waltzes, fugues and tangos written by composers Adam Daniel, Paul Rosen (of Plum Jam, The Stuff and Floorplay), and Ricky Olivarez (of the gypsy jazz Olivarez Trio). And Darling Dot Collier (featured in "Still Life with Donuts") sings a deeply creepy version of the traditional Billy Boy.
"Mister Angerhead" premiered November 2007 in Charlottesville to a lively audience. One viewer declared it the funniest movie she'd ever seen, while other found it entertainingly unsettling. "After seeing our first movie - a sweet ode to our neighborhood - some people were surprised by "Mister Angerhead's" dark themes and comic tone. But I was really thrilled with the response," says Michaud. Edwards and Michaud are now touring the movie around Virginia, staging a DIY campaign to cover the whole state, Washington, DC, parts of North Carolina and other appropriate places like San Francisco and New York.
"Mister Angerhead" will be showing at The Four County Players off Route 33 in Barboursville Sept 26-27 at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. (www.fourcp.org). Tickets are $6 at the door. The director, Mark Edwards, will answer your questions about the making of the movie after each show. For more information about the movie, go to www.MisterAngerhead.com.
