CONDITIONING
Get prepared for the upcoming wrestling season Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Aug. 12, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Hornet Sports Center wrestling room. SPIRIT DAY
Aug. 14, the Piedmont Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association will have "Hokie Spirit Day" at the Tropical Smoothie Café, Culpeper. Tropical Smoothie will donate 20 percent of proceeds to our scholarship fund. This is being held INSTEAD of having the monthly meeting. DEFENSIVE DRIVING CLINIC
A one-day, DMV-approved defensive driving clinic will be at the Orange County High School field house Aug. 15, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Five points will be awarded for successful completion of this eight-hour course. UTZ FAMILY REUNION

BELMONT HORSE SHOW

LITTLE LEAGUE SIGN-UPS
Gordonsville Little League will be holding sign-ups for fall baseball on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Blue Omonhundro field in Gordonsville. RIKKI'S REFUGE PARTY
Rikki's Refuge 11th anniversary party and open house is Aug. 16, 12 noon to 4 p.m. Tours leave the gift shop every ½-hour. Come meet all the animals, including cats, dogs, pigs, goats, rabbits, roosters, horses, pigeons and others. (Bring apples and carrots). Dress for weather, mud and slobber. Admission is two or more cans of cat or dog food per person.

NAACP MEETING

SPAY/NEUTER
TRANSPORTS
The Orange County Humane Society will be organizing low cost spay/neuter transports Aug. 18, Sept. 15, Oct. 13. The animals are transported to the Shenandoah Valley Spay/Neuter Clinic for surgery and they return early the next morning. YOUNG AT HEART CLUB
Aug. 19, My Junk -- Your Treasure Auction. The Young at Heart Club meets every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at East Orange Ruritan Building at the intersection of Route 20 and 522. GYMNASTICS
REGISTRATION
Orange Gymnastics is a non-profit program that will run through Orange County High School. Classes start September 2009. Proceeds benefit the OCHS gymnastics team. On-site registration is Aug. 20, 6 to 8 p.m. in the OCHS auxiliary gymnasium. Preschool through advanced classes will be held, Fridays and Saturdays at OCHS beginning Sept. 11. BLUEGRASS AND GOSPEL
Aug. 21 from 7 to 10 p.m., the public is invited to enjoy an evening of bluegrass and gospel music at the clubhouse next to Waugh's off Route 20. YARD SALE
The Orange County Women of the Moose will be holding a yard sale on Aug. 22 from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, located at 16706 Mountain Track Road. This event is open to the public. We will also have available for purchase, breakfast and lunch items as well as other treasures. ART MUSEUM TRIP
The Windmore Foundation of Culpeper is sponsoring a day trip, by bus, to Brandywine River Art Museum, Chadds Ford, PA on Oct. 27. Works by three generations of Wyeths will be on view. TOURNAMENT

FLOWER SHOW, SPEAKER
Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker, an expert in treatment of Lyme disease and mold related illnesses will speak at the Town of Orange Community Room Sept. 10 at 5:30 p.m., followed by a Q and A session. The Dolley Madison Garden Club Zinnia Show will precede the lecture from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The public is invited and urged to attend this free presentation sponsored by Dolley Madison Garden Club.

TRI-COUNTY TRACK MEET
This year's Tri-County Track Meet will be Sept. 12 at Eastern View High School in Culpeper. The family-friendly meet is open to residents of Culpeper, Madison and Orange counties ages 4 to 79. ORANGE AARP

ACADEMY

OCYC MEMBERS WANTED
The Orange County Youth Council, with the help of an Orange County Youth Commission representative, consists of students in grades eight through 11 who desire to promote a positive image of youth, plan goals and activities to help reach those goals. Members will decide at the first meeting where and when they want to meet for the coming year. Applications can be obtained from school guidance offices or by calling the Office on Youth (672-5484, ext. 2). Applications due by Sept. 18 and interviews will be conducted the following week. GORDONSVILLE STREET FESTIVAL
The Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary will sponsor its annual street festival, Oct. 3, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., rain or shine. This event a major fund raiser for the GVFC. The Lake of the Woods Childhelp Auxiliary will have its third annual Harvest Moon dinner/dance Oct. 24 at the LOW Clubhouse, 6 to 11 p.m. Proceeds benefit children at Alice C. A National Park Service Historian is on duty at the Wilderness Battlefield Exhibit Shelter on Rt. 20, Tues. - Thurs., 10:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. and 1:45 - 4:15 p.m. On Fri. - Mon., the historian is on duty 10:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. and 1:45 - 5:15 p.m.

OFFICE ON YOUTH SCHOOL SUPPLIES CAMPAIGN
The Orange County Office on Youth is collecting donations for children who may be in need of school supplies to start the 2009-2010 school year. Donated supplies and contributions can be delivered to the Office on Youth in the Sedwick Building, 146 Madison Road, Suite 258, Orange. Items on the Office on Youth's list are: wide-ruled notebook paper, #2 pencils, pens, single subject spiral notebooks, pocket folders, colored pencils, crayons, glue sticks, rulers, one-inch three ring binders, pencil boxes, red pencils, erasers and children's winter coats. Rapidan Better Housing is accepting applications for the Indoor Plumbing/Repair Program. Homeowners who need a well or drainfield, or need help with repairs to a well or drainfield, can apply for grants money and zero-interest loans. POSSIBLE TEEN ADVENTURE CLUB
Are you between the ages of 13 and 19? Do you like being outside and trying new and challenging activities? With enough interest, a 4-H Teen Adventure Club will be formed. The club would take trips for camping, hiking, canoeing, and whitewater rafting while learning about outdoors, team work, and natural resources. Interested?
