Watercolors by Charlottesville artist Lee Alter are on exhibit now through January 2010 at Virginia National Bank, 102 East Main Street in Orange.
Lee Alter began her painting career at the Boston, Massachusetts Museum School of Fine Arts, and continued her study in New England and at the University of Virginia. She is an associate member of the McGuffey Art Center in Charlottesville, and the Academy of Fine Arts in Lynchburg, as well as a member of the Central Virginia Watercolor Guild, and the Virginia Watercolor Society and she currently is teaching classes in watercolor at The Arts Center in Orange.
It was while studying at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts with Japanese artist Kaji Aso (1936 - 2006), that Alter's exploration of the self, the human spirit, its development, and its expression through different art forms began.
Now, decades later, the blending of these influences in her paintings are expressive of balance, harmony, and peace. Approaching painting as ceremony, her work gives form to the spiritual, while honoring the self, bringing up images from the unconscious and giving them place through her art. Her aim is to make a contribution of beauty and peace in the world, with an energy that can be felt and transmitted to the viewer.
The exhibit is provided by The Arts Center in Orange is a non-profit (501c3). To purchase the art work, or for more information, visit the Arts Center in Orange at 129 East Main Street, Orange. Call 672-7311, or visit artscenterorange.org. Hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Saturday.
