Thomas's story is just like something out of Hollywood. Marion Pronk, the director of "Mame," was looking for a young boy who would be willing to audition for the part of Patrick Dennis. In a chance meeting during The Fourth of July picnic, Marion noticed a young family sitting on a blanket with two small children and mentioned that The Players were looking for a young boy around 11 years old to audition for the character of Patrick. Thomas's mother, Mary, immediately pointed to her third child Thomas, who immediately expressed his interest in auditioning for a part in "Mame." And thus, Thomas Gildersleeve was discovered!
It seems that Thomas has had previous theatrical experience: He was a monkey in a version of the C.S. Lewis story, Magician's Nephew.
After Thomas's audition, we knew we had found ourselves a star. Thomas has turned out to be a very talented actor and singer. You will be totally captivated by his portrayal of Patrick Dennis, the orphaned 11-year-old nephew of Auntie Mame. Patrick is thrust into Mame's eccentric life of madcap adventures and free-spirited living. This unlikely pair develops a loving bond which proves that "life is indeed a banquet."
This is a wonderful musical with flashy costumes, toe-tapping songs, and snappy dance numbers along with some great laughs. By the way, don't forget to stop and meet Thomas after the show.
