The public is invited to a new exhibition, "Oceans and the Creatures that Love Them," featuring the art of Robin Braun, Ann Cheeks, Lana Lambert at Woodberry Forest School's Baker Gallery of the Walker Fine Arts Center. The exhibition runs March 21 through April 30. A reception will be Thursday, April 8, 6 - 7:30 p.m. in the Walker Fine Arts Center.
In March and April, Woodberry Forest School features the work of three area artists in the Baker Gallery of the Walker Fine Arts Center. Robin Braun presents small, carefully observed and meticulously painted seascapes, using vistas from Chincoteague to the Virgin Islands as sources. Ann Cheeks offers larger mixed-media paintings that involve the ceaseless movement of water, from studies of waterfalls to the ebb and flow of breakers along the shoreline. Lana Lambert gives visual form and poetic expression to her interest in cephalopods, especially the horseshoe crab, integrating text with image using letterpress on woodblock prints. All three artists are affiliated with the McGuffey Art Center in Charlottesville.
Robin Braun received an MFA in painting from the University of Iowa in 1997. She has exhibited her paintings in solo and group shows throughout Virginia, at several galleries in Philadelphia, and at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, Iowa. Ann Cheeks received her training in art at Virginia Commonwealth University and worked for 12 years as a graphic designer before changing course to raise a family, develop her own art, and get involved in teaching. Lana Lambert received a BFA from the Corcoran College of Art and Design in 2004, and is active in printmaking and book making through her affiliation with the Virginia Artist Book Center.
There is an opening reception for the artists in the Walker Fine Arts Centers on Thursday, April 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with a gallery talk at 7 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and weekends, 1 to 5 p.m. Contact Kelly Lonergan at kelly_lonergan@woodberry.org, or call 672-3900.
There is no admission and the public is cordially invited to attend. Woodberry Forest School is located about four miles north of Orange off of Route 15.
