Foxhunting as art? Both in photographs and in practice? That's the focus of a new coffee table book published by local photographers, Phil and Susie Audibert.
Since 2004, the couple has followed the Keswick Hunt Club on foot, sometimes as often as three times per week, in all seasons and weather conditions. The result has been thousands of photographs. This 168-page collection of their favorite images features hunting, horses, foxes and hounds, all set in the glorious backdrop of Virginia's piedmont.
The focus of "The Art of Foxhunting" is to introduce this magnificent and often misunderstood sport to the non-foxhunting public. It hopes to dispel the myth that foxhunters kill foxes. They don't; they simply chase them.
This book is also about the natural beauty of Virginia's countryside. The authors also hope it will take experienced foxhunters back to a memorable morning when they were practicing the art of foxhunting themselves.
"The Art of Foxhunting" is available at The Arts Center in Orange, Laurie Holliday Interiors in Gordonsville the gift shop at Montpelier, New Dominion Book Store in Charlottesville and Noon Whistle Pottery in Stanardsville. It can also be ordered online by going to www.AudibertPhoto.com and clicking on "The Book."
