This week in movie news: Oscar and Tommy.

On Tuesday, the Academy Award nominees were announced. Tonight, Tommy Garrett will be celebrating his role in a new film starring Noah Wyle of “ER” fame.

Queen of the Lot” is showing at Sunchase Cinema 8 in Farmville, and Garrett will be on hand for the many of the screenings.

Garrett is planning to attend the 4:40, 7:15 and 9:50 screenings tonight; then, he will be back for the 7:15 and 9:50 shows on both Saturday and Sunday.

“I’ll be there all weekend, but the film will also show next week for those who can’t make it,” Garrett, the local publicist and actor, said in a recent release.

According to Garrett, “Queen of the Lot” is a behind-the-scenes look at what makes Hollywood so crazy. Maggie Chase (played by Tanna Frederick) is a B-list actress who craves more fame. She finds it — and soon after she is placed under house arrest following two DUI charges.

Her ankle bracelet turns into a good-luck charm, and Maggie now finds herself a hot commodity in the tabloids. To make things just a little more complicated, her personal life becomes more complex when she meets her boyfriend’s brother (Wyle).

The film also stars Mary Crosby (aka, the woman who shot J.R. in the long-running TV drama “Dallas”), David Proval from “The Sopranos” and Kathryn Crosby (Bing Crosby’s widow). And, of course, there’s Central Virginia’s own Garrett, who plays himself, a reporter and Hollywood insider.

Written and directed by Henry Jaglom, “Queen of the Lot” features Christopher Rydell as Dov and Ron Vignone as Gio. “Queen” is a sequel to Jaglom’s 2006 movie, “Hollywood Dreams.”

It has been called “a love story with a new-age twist.”

Garrett will be giving away some of his books and a few door prizes at the Farmville theather this weekend.

The local author, who writes a regular column for the Canyon News, also has several other acting project in the works, both on the small and big screens.

“My agents signed me to a fourth film that I will be doing this year,” Garrett said. “Twilight of the Gods” is scheduled to begin filming at the end of February in Malibu and Beverly Hills.
