FREE TRAVEL TRAINING
The Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services One-Call Transportation Center offers free travel training to anyone in need. Learn how to access and utilize local public transportation. Classes are offered one-on-one to individuals, or can be arranged for groups. Presentations can also be made to civic groups, church groups, human service agencies, etc. To learn more, or to register for a class, call 540-445-1VAN.

SUPPORT PRDC
This May the Piedmont Regional Dental Clinic will be one of two nonprofits to benefit from the popular Nickels for Nonprofits program at Whole Foods Market in Charlottesville. When Whole Foods customers bring their own reusable bags for their groceries they receive a nickel back for each bag used. Customers can keep their nickel or donate it to one of two Nickels for Non-Profit Benefactors of the month. Please support PRDC this May by bringing your own grocery bags when shopping at Whole Foods Markets and donating your nickels.

RELAY FOR LIFE BENEFIT
Beginning May 5, The Village Creamery in Orange, next to the Pizza Shop, will donate 10 percent of sales to the OFP Family and Friends Relay for Life of Orange team.

FOOTBALL EARLY REGISTRATION
The Piedmont Youth Sports Association, Inc. Orange Stingers football team is hosting early registration May 14-June 15 for children ages 5-14. To register, visit www.eteamz.com/ocstingers. The cost is $125. Football camp will be held June 18-22 and July 23-27. A free football camp will also be held July 28. All camps will be at Prospect Heights Middle School. VENDOR BLENDER
The OFP Family and Friends Relay for Life of Orange team will host a vendor blender May 18, 6-8 p.m. at the Orange Train Depot. Vendors will be present from Avon, Scentsy, Pampered Chef, Jewelry by Alisa, Herbalife, Tupperware, Shaklee, 31 Purses, Tastefully Simple, Chair Massages by Cindy and more. WADDELL LODGE BENEFIT BREAKFAST
A breakfast will be held May 19, 7-11 a.m., at 228 Holiday Avenue in Gordonsville. Proceeds will be donated to Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center in Richmond. For more information call 832-0303.

ELECTRONICS RECYCLING DAY
The Orange County Litter Control Committee will host an electronics recycling day May 19, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ruritan Building, 24124 Constitution Highway, Unionville. Items accepted include computers, monitors, hard drives, modems, plug and play devices, wires, cables, video game systems and more. Simultaneously, the Ruritan Club will host a food drive as part of National Food Drive week. Bring non-perishable items to donate. BOOK SALE
The Gordonsville Friends of the Library will host a book sale at the Gordonsville Library on North Main Street Saturday, May 19, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both hard cover and soft cover books, books on cassette, music CDs, DVDs and videos will be for sale. Donations of books and other sale items may be dropped off at the library. All proceeds benefit library programs.

YARD AND BAKE SALE
The Salem United Methodist Women of Salem United Methodist Church will have a yard and bake sale Saturday, May 19, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, located on Rt. 20 adjacent to Village Farm Feed. Hot dogs and sodas will be available.

ORANGE VOLUNTEER RESCUE SQUAD OPEN HOUSE
The Orange County Volunteer Rescue Squad will host an open house May 20, 12-4 p.m. at 151 Berry Hill Road in Orange. Come out and enjoy food and demonstrations.

MISS SPRING BLOSSOM PAGEANT
The Miss Spring Blossom Pageant will be held May 20 at Orange County High School. This is an annual fundraiser for the Madison County Scholarship Pageant, but is open to all counties. Registration will be held 9-11 a.m. and the pageant will start at 11:30 a.m. Age categories are baby through Mrs./Ms. so everyone can participate. In honor of Mother's Day, there will also be a mother/daughter competition which is free to enter. Compete in gown, spring casual wear and photogenic categories. PLA MEETING
The Piedmont Landowners Association will meet Monday, May 21 at 7 p.m. at Middle River Farm in Hood. The discussion will center on the Conway River stream bank restoration project completed this past winter. The Piedmont Landowners Association is comprised of landowners from Culpeper, Greene, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties. All are welcome. OCAA MEETING
Orange County Activities Association will be holding its monthly meeting May 22 at 7 p.m. at the Orange County High School Hornets Sport Center. All members and the public are invited to attend.

YOUNG AT HEART
The club will meet May 23 and travel to the Riverside Dinner Theater to see “Anything Goes.” The Young at Heart Club meets every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the East Orange Ruritan Building at the intersection of Routes 20 and 522. The club is open to senior adults and provides a social outlet including games, guest speakers, luncheons and other entertainment. For more information contact Edna Bratz at 854-8406.

NARFE MEETING
The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) chapter of Lake of the Woods will meet May 24 at 1 p.m. at the LOW Clubhouse. Jackie Richards will discuss her “red book,” important things you should do and have to prepare your family for your departure. Plus, one lucky NARFE member attending the meeting will receive a free ticket to attend the June 27 trip to Charles Town. BATTLE OF THE WILDERNESS MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Battle of the Wilderness Memorial Golf Tournament will be held May 25 at the Lake of the Woods Golf Course. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. This event, sponsored by the Lake of the Woods Civil War Studies Group, honors the soldiers who fought during the Battle of the Wilderness May 4-6, 1864, as well as past and present members of the military. The format is a two-person team scramble match play putting a “confederate” team against a “union” team for the win. The cost is $50 per person for green and cart fees and prizes will be awarded for closest to the line, closest to the pin and a trophy Civil War sword for a hole-in-one. Raffle prizes include a Cleveland putter, golf bag and more. RICHMOND FINE ARTS MUSEUM TRIP
Join the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1855 for a bus trip to the newly renovated Richmond Fine Arts Museum for a day of culture May 30. This includes a guided tour of the museum and the new exhibition of “Maharaja, the Splendor of India’s Great Kings.” The bus will depart Lake of the Woods at 9 a.m. The guided tour will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by lunch at 11:30 a.m., the Maharaja exhibition tour at 1 p.m., free time between 2:15-3 p.m. The bus will depart for Lake of the Woods at 3 p.m. Tickets are $54, which includes a sit-down lunch. RVFD FOUNDER’S DAY DINNER
The Rapidan Volunteer Fire Department will celebrate founder’s day with a pork tenderloin dinner June 1, 6-8 p.m. The menu will consist of pork tenderloin, baked apples, green beans, mashed potatoes, rolls, beverages and deserts. The cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and under. Take outs are available. Proceeds will service the building repair loan. For more information, call 672-5744.

ART OF AGING EXPO
The 11th annual Art of Aging Expo will be held June 5, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Department on East Baker Street. Important areas of concern at this year’s expo will include health services, legal/financial information, housing, law enforcement and community services. Orange County Sheriff Mark Amos will be the master of ceremonies and Randy Davis from the Office of the Attorney General will be available to share information on Medicare/Medicaid fraud.

BATTLE OF TREVILIAN STATION RE-ENACTMENT
The 148th Anniversary of the Battle of Trevilian Station Re-enactment event will be held at June 9-10 at Bracketts Farm (1117 Nolting Rd) in Louisa. The event features more than 100 horses, cavalry battles, artillery, living history demonstrations, a parade of carriages, home tours, mock field hospital, sutlers selling wares of the time, music, food and much more. Hours are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Sunday. The fee for spectators is $10 for ages 16 and older per day or $15 for a two-day pass and $5 for ages 4-15 per day or $8 for a two-day pass. WAUGH MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Gary Waugh Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Friday, June 22 at Meadows Farms Golf Course in Locust Grove. The format for the tournament is captain’s choice and there will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Prizes will be awarded for hole in one, closest to the pin and longest drive. The entry fee is $65 per person. Proceeds will benefit the Love Outreach Food Pantry. For more information, call 854-9890.

NARFE CHARLES TOWN TRIP
The National Active and Retired Federal Employees chapter of Lake of the Woods will take a trip to Charles Town, WV June 27. The bus will depart LOW at 8 a.m. and be back before 5 p.m. The cost is $33, but each person will receive a $20 voucher upon arrival. Call now to reserve a seat. GOSPEL FESTIVAL
