Area Residents Graduate from Averett University
Lisa Kent of Barboursville; Tonya V. Scott and Danielle I. Carey-Ferguson, both of Gordonsville; Ann G. Baxter of Orange; Bridget Minor Johnson of Rhoadesville; and Pamela Y. Leake-Yowell of Somerset were among the 429 students to receive their diplomas during Averett University's Dec. 13 commencement, which was held at its E. Stuart James Grant Center.
Kent, Scott, Carey-Ferguson, Baxter, Johnson and Leake-Yowell graduated with bachelor of business administration degrees through the university's Graduate and Professional Studies Program. Scott and Johnson graduated cum-laude.

Williams graduates from George Mason
Justin Williams has earned his bachelor's degree in economics from George Mason University. He is planning to pursue his Ph.D. in economics.

Hassmer on Randolph College Dean's List
Sarah Hassmer of Gordonsville was named to the dean's list for the 2008 fall semester at Randolph College in Lynchburg. The dean's list recognizes those students who have achieved superior quality in their academic work.

William and Mary Dean's List
The following students were among those recently named to the dean's list at the College of William and Mary for the fall 2008 semester: Katie Gainsback and Elizabeth Honenberger, both of Orange.
In order to achieve dean's list status, a full-time, degree-seeking, undergraduate student must take at least 12 credit hours and earn a 3.6 quality point average during the semester.

Shifflett on dean's list at Belmont University
George "Clark" Shifflett III of Portland, TN, qualified for the fall 2008 dean's list at Belmont University. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.
A 1989 graduate of Orange County High School, Shifflett graduated Dec. 19, 2008, from Belmont University with a major in political science. He will be attending law school in the fall.
Shifflett is the son of George Shifflett of Orange and Ruth Shifflett of Portland, TN.

Wilson awarded first-year honors at Sweet Briar College
Madeline Wilson, daughter of Ronald and Janice Wilson of Rhoadesville, was awarded first-year honors at Sweet Briar College for outstanding academic achievement for the 2008 fall semester. Wilson is majoring in engineering.
To qualify for first-year honors, students must achieve an outstanding record, including a 3.3 grade point average with a minimum of 12 graded academic hours in the first semester of their freshman year.

Conley on Virginia Tech Dean's List
Virginia Polytechnic and State University, Blacksburg is pleased to announce that Eric S. Conley has been named to the Dean's List for the fall 2008 semester. Eric is a second year student in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and will be majoring in agriculture and spplied economics. In order for a student to be named a Virginia Tech Dean's List Honoree they must be in good standing and achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or better. Conley is a graduate of Orange County High School and the son of Greg and Teresa Conley of Gordonsville.

Calanese on dean's list at Lynchburg College
Matthew James Calanese of Gordonsville has been named to the dean's list at Lynchburg College for the 2008 fall semester. Students much achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in order to qualify.

National College Announces dean's list
National College in Charlottesville has released the dean's list for the fall terms. The following students were among those who achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.5 out of a possible 4.0 and thus achieving the honor and privilege of being placed on the Dean's List: Elaine Branham, Gordonsville, and Anissa Richards, Somerset.

Local students make Lynchburg College Dean's List
Two area students earned dean's list for the 2008 fall semester at Lynchburg College. Students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in order to qualify. The students are Ashley Ann Brown of Stanardsville and Sarah Hampton Ridgeway of Locust Dale.

Local students achieve honors at James Madison University
Several local students graduated, made president's list or dean's list during the fall 2008 semester at James Madison University. To qualify for the president's list, a student must carry a semester course load of 12 graded credit hours or more and earn a GPA of 3.900 or above. To qualify for the dean's list, a student must carry a semester course load of 12 graded credit hours or more and earn a GPA of 3.500 to 3.899.
Those who graduated are John Benson and Lyndsay Hooper, both from Barboursville; and Katherine Amos, from Orange, and who graduated cum laude.
Those who made the fall 2008 president's list are Ashley Tucker from Gordonsville and Beth Hulvey from Rapidan.
Those who made the fall 2008 dean's list are Tyler Maupin, Barboursville; Alyssa Johnson and Ainsley Lockhart, both from Locust Grove; and Katherine Amos, Eric Barden, and Elliott Gillan, all from Orange.

Local students named to Bluefield College Dean's List
Bluefield College has released its dean's lists for traditional students for the fall 2008 semester.
Forty-nine traditional students were named to the dean's list for earning a GPA between 3.5 and 3.9. Local students Dana Frech, and Jerry Frech from Rhoadesville and Brittany Garton from Gordonsville were among those named to the list.

Local students named to Dean's List at Hampden-Sydney College
Four local students attending Hampden-Sydney College were named to the dean's list for the first semester of the 2008-2009 academic year. To earn this distinction, students must achieve at least a 3.3 semester grade point average out of a possible 4.0. The students are: Robert Everett Bodendorf, a junior - Robert is a graduate of Orange County High School and is the son of Dr. & Mrs. Robert Bodendorf of Orange; Jordan Christopher Marshall, a sophomore - Jordan is a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy and is the son of Anita Marshall and Chris Marshall of Unionville; John Robert Mohrmann, a sophomore - John is a graduate of Orange County High School and is the son of Mr. & Mrs. William Mohrmann of Orange and John Joseph Simmons III, a junior - John is a graduate of Orange County High School and is the son of Jane & Jim Shelhorse of Mine Run.
