David Alan Carl, manager of Orange Motor Specialty received a certificate of appreciation for serving as a pacesetting business leader in the recycling of cardboard. Mr. Carl and his employees are commended by Laura Carter, Orange County Litter Control committee coordinator for the outstanding work they are doing to reduce trash, helping to save the expense of hauling to our landfill, and providing a small source of income to the county by putting their large volume of cardboard into the county recycling bins.
"It isn't too hard!" says Mr. Carl. "We put a large box by the back door, and then break down other boxes to fill it. When the box gets full we put it in a delivery van and take it to the recycle bin."
Small boxes are held at the sales counter for parts being bought by customers, eliminating the need for bags. "We can see a great reduction in our trash since we have been recycling cardboard."
Additionally, they accept automotive, truck, and tractor batteries for recycling.
Beggar's Banquet, a Town of Orange-based catering service, supports vermiculture (growth of earth worms) with the composting of food scraps. They, also, offer this recycling service to their clients.
Oil, aluminum, metal, wood pallets, batteries, and cardboard are on the recycle list at Piedmont Power Sports in Orange. According to Jack Rickett, owner, "Once you get the system in place, recycling is easy."
At Virginia Tractor's Orange location, metal and cardboard are recycled. Used oil is reused as heating oil. "It pretty much gets us through the winter." says Ann Lawrence Grasty.
