Moore graduates from Spelman College
Sunday, May 17, marked the 122nd commencement of Spelman College in Atlanta, GA. Among the 550 graduates was Keneshia Trene' Moore who received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. Moore is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Moore of Lawrenceville, GA; the granddaughter of Mrs. Jacqueline Moore-Betts and Mr. Luther Moore of Alabama and the great-granddaughter of Mrs. Mobel Easton of Orange, VA.
Mohrmann graduates from Hampden-Sydney College
William Pendleton Mohrmann was among the 216 men who graduated Sunday, May 10 at commencement exercises marking the end of the 234th academic year at Hampden-Sydney College.
Mohrmann graduated with a B.A. in economics and commerce. He is a graduate of Orange County High School and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Mohrmann of Orange.
Dean's Scholar Scholarship Awards announced for incoming freshmen
Robert Chambers III, a 2009 graduate of Orange County High School, is the recipient of a Dean's Scholar award in the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech. The Dean's Scholar award represents one of the most generous scholarship offers to entering freshman in the College of Engineering, awarding $5,000 annually for up to four years of engineering studies. Awards are based upon superior intellectual promise and academic performance, demonstrated leadership ability, person character and community service.
Over 650 applications were received for the awards and scholarship application ranking was determined after a review of all applications by the award committee. Rank was determined by academic record, extra curricular and community service activity with concentration on leadership involvement, honors, employment and depth of thinking, clarity, conciseness and professional format of the essay.
Local residents among graduates at PVCC
Two graduates from the local area were among the 398 graduates who received degrees and certificates at Piedmont Virginia Community College's Commencement May 15. U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello addressed the graduating class and their guests at the college's 36th annual ceremony.
Shannon Elaine Cheek of Stanardsville was awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree in nursing. A 2005 graduate of William Monroe High School, she is the daughter of Tim and Cathy Cheek of Stanardsville. She plans to pursue a Master of Nursing degree.
Kaitlyn McKeown of Orange was awarded an Associate of Science degree in general studies. She is employed with Spectrum Physical Therapy and plans to pursue certification in personal training. A 2006 graduate of Orange County High School, she is the daughter of Dan and Shaun McKeown of Orange.
The graduates included those who had completed their studies during the 2008 summer term and fall semester as well as the 2009 spring semester and summer term.
Local graduates from King's College
David W. Scott, of Unionville, earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from King's College at its 60th commencement exercises May 17. Scott was among 463 students to receive their degrees during the exercises.
