The deadline to file for local elected office is less than a week away. This year, Orange County citizens will select two supervisors and two school board members in the November general election.
Government affects us most at the local level. Especially on our school board and board of supervisors.
Local elections are opportunities for citizens to play an integral part in shaping their community.
Those who choose to run clearly place community above self. These are jobs of service, not glory.
We applaud those who have already achieved the requisite signatures and met the qualifications to be listed on the Nov. 3 ballot: Lou Thompson, District 1 school board candidate; Mark Johnson and Shannon Abbs, District 1 board of supervisors candidates; Jerry Bledsoe and Todd Hensley, District 4 school board candidates and Teri Pace and Grover Wilson, District 4 board of supervisors candidates.
To qualify for November’s ballot, local candidates must secure 125 signatures from registered voters within their district. They also must open a campaign bank account and complete a packet of paperwork available from the registrar. The filing date is Tuesday, June 9.
Who else is ready to run?
