While a handful of Orange County voters participated in Tuesday's Democratic Primary, it was perhaps an election five months away that was most interesting to local voters.
Orange County's citizens reflected the same support other voters across the state did in backing state senator Creigh Deeds as the Democratic candidate for Virginia Governor and Jody Wagner as the Democrats' candidate for lieutenant governor.
But Tuesday also marked the deadline for local citizens to file their candidacy for November's board of supervisors and school board elections.
According to Orange County Registrar Raymond Cady, nine candidates met the qualifications to be on the ballot for four seats this fall.
District 1 and District 4 voters will choose their school board and board of supervisors representatives Nov. 3.
In District 1, they'll have a choice of three candidates for supervisor: incumbent Mark Johnson and challengers Shannon Abbs and Andy McWilliams. Meanwhile, Lou Thompson is the only candidate on the ballot for the District 1 School Board seat and will presumably replace current school board member Chris Haney who opted not to seek reelection.
District 4 voters will also have three supervisor candidates to choose from, including incumbent Teri Pace, former supervisor Grover Wilson and Ron Matalavage. District 4 voters have two choices for school board, including incumbent Jerry Bledsoe and challenger Todd Hensley.
These local candidates will join Deeds on the ballot in November. The Bath County, 25th District State Senator beat former Clinton White House insider Terry McAuliffe and former state Democratic legislative leader Brian Moran. The victory sets up a Deeds rematch with Republican Bob McDonnell, who beat him in the 2005 attorney general election by 323 votes.
Locally, Deeds collected 601 votes, while McAuliffe finished with 305 and Moran with 150.
Wagner garnered 682 local votes to Signer's 210. Jon Bowerbank, who withdrew from the Lt. Governor's race last month received 40 votes. Wagner will face Bill Bolling in November.
Meanwhile, Republican Ken Cuccinelli will face Democrat Steve Shannon.
Delegates Ed Scott (30th District) and Rob Bell (58th District) will also be on the ballot and both are running unopposed.
