Orange County's most populated district, District 5, also had the greatest voter turnout, as incumbent supervisor Lee Frame was elected to another term by defeating challenger Suzanne Brady. Frame's 1,646 votes were good enough for 70 percent of the votes. Brady collected 678 votes.
"I'm very happy for the win, I can say that," said Frame. "It was a pretty clean campaign between Suzanne and myself. I think the result shows that the best way to campaign is to govern effectively."
In defeat, Brady said that the result was unfortunate, but expected, given her newcomer status.
"I'm a little bit disappointed, but not that surprised," said Brady. "I thank all my supporters, especially those in the business community, and the voters and congratulate Teel [Goodwin] and Jim [White] on their wins."
Frame said that he believed his previous four years on the board, as well as his strong presence in the community helped decide the election in his favor.
"My challenger is someone who is new to politics," said Frame. "I've built a strong constituency through four years of governing and my constituents know I listen and work to solve their concerns."
Brady said she had already spoken to Frame early after the results had come in, congratulating him on his victory.
"I thanked him for being a great candidate," said Brady. "I'm relatively new to this, but who knows, maybe I'll give it another shot in four years."
Frame, a former planning commission member and LOW Squad Captain is nearing completion of his first term on the board, having defeated Doug Rogers in 2007.
