To the editor,
We don't fit the typical mold. We are Christians, registered Republicans for 34 years, and consider our stance in everyday life and politics that of conservatives. So you'd think we fit the Tea Party-goers' clique. But on health care we do not. We believe everyone should have access to health care, even if they have to purchase it via a system like Medicare. That way, even the poor pay into it versus getting it for free at the expense of taxpayers.
Back in the 1990s, we were on the bandwagon against "Hillary Care." But all that changed in early 2002, because our daughter, her husband and four kids, cannot afford the $30,000 annually for an average policy as typically found through a typical health insurance provider; because my daughter inherited a benign tachicardia condition, and one of the children, now eight, was born with cancer. Though he is fine today he must be monitored annually until he's through his early teen years.
It takes the experience of going up against the big insurance industry to realize why we truly need to give it competition. And with all that AIG has done to cripple our economy, and the public realizing the huge salaries and bonuses they all get, you would thing the public would want to bring about this change that is needed.
I hope people will call all their representatives in the House and Senate, and beg them to vote for a public option.
