In the evening's most hotly contested Orange County Board of Supervisors race, incumbent Teel Goodwin defeated challenger Will Likins to retain the District 3 Supervisor seat. The voting was split 60 to 40 percent, with Goodwin receiving 822 to Likins' 537.
"I'm very happy with the results," said Goodwin. "It was about what we expected, a 60- 40 split between Will and I. I've beaten on a lot of doors in the past weeks and would have hoped for a little more, but it's a good win."
Likins was gracious in the defeat, saying that he hoped Goodwin would do what's best for the county.
"I wish him luck," said Likins to Goodwin. "I'm grateful to all my supporters and to the voters that voted for me."
Goodwin didn't believe there was any one deciding factor that tipped the election his way and that actually he and Likins share stances on many issues.
"Will is a nice guy, a very nice and enjoyable guy," said Goodwin. "It was a clean race and we each had our core followers. We actually agree on many issues, except for maybe the subdivision ordinance."
Goodwin was first elected to the board in 2007 when he defeated former District 3 Planning Commissioner Steve Satterfield. He wished to thank his wife and son for "putting up with him during the campaign."
"I know it was hard," he said.
