The Orange Community Band will present an autumn concert Saturday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Orange County High School.  The evening will be filled with a colorful musical tapestry for your listening pleasure. Selections will include familiar music from Sousa to Puccini; and ranging from American Dixieland and Shaker themes, to the march and dance rhythms of Bizet’s “Farandole.”
The concert band has performed a number of spring, fall and seasonal concerts in the Orange area including Orange’s Fourth of July celebration, Picnic in the Park. The band will also be performing at this year’s Veteran’s Day ceremony in Taylor Park the week before the Nov. 14 concert.
The community band’s director, Charles Torian is a native of Hampton and holds a B.S. degree in music from Frederick College in Portsmouth, and a masters degree in music from Virginia Commonwealth University. Charles attended the Navy School of Music and was a member of the U.S. Navy Band in Washington, D.C. He taught band at a number of high schools for more than 25 years and has been music director at a number of churches. In addition to his current responsibilities as director of the Orange Community Band, he plays principal oboe in the Charlottesville Municipal Band, where he also serves as one of two assistant conductors.
Charles Torian and the band promise an entertaining program and invite all to attend.
