The residents and staff of the Orange County Animal Shelter are gearing up for a state-mandated renovation of the interior kennels commencing June 29, and we need your help!
Canines of all shapes and sizes, from cuddly to cute are looking for “vacation” homes where they can stay for the extent of the project which is slated to last for two weeks.
During inspection by the Virginia Department of Agriculture in 2008, it was noted that the concrete flooring was beginning to lose its ability to shed water. Colored epoxy mixed with aggregate was recommended as the best long-term solution. Thanks to a grant from PetsMart Charities, full funding has been awarded to etch, re-caulk and coat the kennels including the walls up to 10 feet in height.
While this project is underway, all adoptable dogs will be relocated into foster care. If you are willing to open your home and heart to a four-legged friend in need, please call the shelter at 672-1124. We can provide food, crates, bedding, leashes and collars as necessary. All dogs have been spayed or neutered, have age-appropriate vaccines and have been vetted. Profiles of available dogs can be found at http://www.petfinder.com under the Orange County zip code of 22960.
In addition to our plea for foster care, we are asking all residents to assist us by continuing to house any dogs for whom they wished to seek placement through our program until the re-surfacing has been completed. We will be on restricted intake for dogs from Saturday, June 27until 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 14.
Please call the Shelter to file a report if you have found or lost a dog; all information regarding abuse/neglect cases, dangerous dogs, bite cases, etc. may be routed to Animal Control at 672-9725 as usual.
Thank you for your help and patience. Please come visit and see the dogs’ new digs! Our hours of operation as of July 1 are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and closed Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays.
