Exchange Hotel still open

To the editor,
We would like to assure everyone that the Civil War Museum at the Exchange Hotel is open as usual and rumors of its closing are untrue. Like all historic sites, the operation and maintenance of a building that is almost 150 years old, is both challenging and expensive.
The Civil War Museum Board of Directors was challenged to utilize its limited funding to fulfill its primary mission to provide a pleasant and educational experience to visitors and to maintain this historic structure. Subsequently, upon review of all expenditures, the board felt it necessary to eliminate the position of manager for the museum.
Throughout the years, the museum has often operated under the auspices and leadership of its board members and volunteers without a manager, and will do so at this time.
The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The museum is closed Wednesdays and holidays.
We welcome you to visit the museum and encourage you to consider volunteering at Virginia’s only standing Civil War receiving hospital.
