Somerset-based eventer Emily Beshear and her student Kate Samuels were recently selected for the 2009 United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Eventing Developing Riders program. The program is used to identify promising up-and-coming riders and help in their training and preparation for international competition.
Beshear are Samuels among 28 equestrian athletes selected from around the United States to receive the honor in 2009. The U.S. Chef d’Equipe and technical advisor for eventing, Cpt. Mark Phillips, will coach the developing riders. These athletes will be invited to participate in training sessions and coaching.  Beshear and Samuels were selected by USEF talent spotters out of nearly 50 nominees-including Olympic veterans-from across the country.
