Swimmers smoke Dragons

The Orange County High School swimming and diving teams had a strong showing Saturday at Fairview pool, with the girls winning one of two and the boys remaining undefeated in district dual meets.
The Hornet girls beat William Monroe 59-42, but lost to Monticello 57-41.
The girls’ medley relay squad of Lindsay Cook, Dani Amoruso, Zoe Klug, and Julia Yurasits finished second.
Individually, Cook placed second in the IM and in the 100 backstroke. Yurasits, meanwhile, was second in the 50 free.
Meghan Bradberry finished second in the 100 butterfly and Grace Hynes was second in the 400 free.
Erin Kreiter, Amoruso, Klug, and Yurasits won the 200 free relay while Hynes, Cook, Kendall Taylor, and Bradberry won the 400 free relay.
The boys had little trouble with either of their Jefferson District opponents, winning all 12 events to beat William Monroe 77-25 and Monticello 79-22.
Justin Barden, John Marquis, Cory Gunnett, and Corey Kreiter won the medley relay and Barden won the 200 free and 100 backstroke.
Alex Montes de Oca won the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly, while Ethan Wilkinson won the 50 free.
Robert Edwards won Saturday’s diving event and Kreiter won the 100 freestyle.
Kenny Daniel won the 400 free, and Marquis won the 100 breaststroke. Kreiter, Barden, John McQuaid, and Marquis won the 200 free relay and Will Barnes, Daniel, Marquis, and Gunnett won the 400 free relay.
The Hornets compete in a quad meet Saturday with Spotswood, Sherando and Westover.
