Rob Johnson’s solid season came to an end Tuesday, but the senior didn’t go down without a fight.
Playing Kevin Chang of Broad Run, the Hornets’ top seed battled for more than two and a half hours in the Region II tennis quarterfinals at Boar’s Head in Charlottesville before losing.
Johnson and Chang traded blows in the first set, with Johnson losing 7-6 in a tiebreaker (8-6). In the second set, Johnson battled, but lost 6-4.
“It was a great match,“ Hornet head coach Sara Haney said. “It was an accomplishment for Rob to make it to Regionals.“
Johnson was the first Hornet boy to advance to the Region II tournament during Haney’s tenure as coach. He was the Jefferson District Tournament runner-up.
