Orange outlasts Greene Dragons

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

The Orange County High School varsity boys soccer team jumped out to an early 2-0 halftime lead on visiting William Monroe Monday night and held on to win 3-2.
The Hornets got their first goal when forward Antonio Flores stripped the ball loose on a 50/50 ball with the Dragons' keeper then made a shot across the goal into the side netting from a nearly impossible angle.
The Hornets doubled the margin when left midfielder Ethan Biggs scored on a penalty kick to give Orange a 2-0 advantage by the break.
The Hornets nearly put the game out of reach when left midfielder Cody Bennett crossed the ball to Josh Moon who netted Orange's third and final goal.
With a healthy lead, coach Dwane Pugh pulled keeper Joe Morrison from the goal and got his reserves some valuable playing experience while resting his starters.
The win improved the Hornets to 3-2-1.
The Hornets' match with Culpeper Friday was rained out. Orange heads to Fluvanna Thursday before taking off next week during spring break.
