Track hosts Flucos, competes at Dogwood

Orange County High School's track teams held their only home meet of the year in windy, cool conditions last Wednesday afternoon.
It was senior night and Orange acknowledged seniors Kayla Jones, Skylar Scott, Jordan Anderson, Darius Carter, Louis Daniel, Chad Galimore, Quintin Hunter and Wayne Wright.
The home-track advantage didn't help the Hornets much as both boys and girls teams fell to Fluvanna 102-30 and 74-46, respectively.
In the boys events, Chris Lewis won the 1600 meters (5:03) and placed third in the 200 meters.
James Harris was first in the discus (138' 5 ½").
The 4 x 100 relay team of Tyrone Ellis, Amir Waller, Quintin Hunter and Jordan Anderson won in a time of 44.3.
Andre Linton was second in the 400 meters and Patrick Curtis second in the 300 hurdles. Avery Powell was second in the 800 meters and Darius Carter second in the shot put.
Cody Johnson placed third in the 1600 meters anqd Lamar Gordon was third in the long jump.
For the girls, Charnee Long (12.9) and Gequetta Davis (13.2) finished first and second, respectively, in the 100 meters.
Long and Davis teamed with Nicole Givens and Christina Hairston to win the 4 x 100 relay (53.4).
Skylar Scott took the top spot in the 200 meters (27.5), followed by Davis in second and Emani Combs in third.
Scott was also second in the high jump, while Davis placed second in the long jump.
Mary Wooten placed second in the shot put and third in the discus. Danielle Payne placed second in the discus.
In the distance races, Zoe Klug was second in the 1600 meters, while Jessica Hensley was third. Klug and Hensley finished second and third, respectively, in the 800 as well.
And Alexis Richardson was second in the 400.
Saturday, the Hornets traveled to the Dogwood Invitational at Monticello High School where they competed against more than three dozen other schools from across the state.
The Hornet girls placed 11th with 25 points. Loudoun Valley won the meet with 56 points.
Ashontae Jackson was the Hornets' lone winner, taking the top spot in the 400 meters (57.79).
Orange's 4 x 200 relay (Davis, Hairston, Combs and Kayla Jones) finished second (1:49.97).
In the 1600 sprint medley (legs of 400 meters, 200, 200 and 800) Combs, Givens, Davis and Grace Newman placed fifth (4:41.30).
The 4 x 100 relay team of Long, Davis, Givens and Hairston took seventh (51.78).
Long was also eighth in the 100 meters (13:07).
The Hornet boys were 35th Saturday with seven points, well back of first-place Louisa (65).
Harris was the top Hornet finisher, placing sixth in the discus with a toss of 135' 1".
Tevin Coker, Mark Hairston, Andre Linton and Ellis took seventh in the 4 x 200 relay (1:38.21).
Ellis also placed eighth in the 200 meters (23.19).
In the distance medley (legs of 1200 meters, 400, 800 and 1600), Lewis, Powell, Curtis and Jeff Taylor finished eighth in a time of 11:38.71.
The Hornets visit Western Albemarle Wednesday before heading to Fluvanna Friday for the Fluvanna Invitational.
Orange will also host the first middle school track and field invitational at Orange County High School Saturday, May 2 at 10 a.m. Admission is free.
