The Orange Otters Swim Team was in the water Sunday evening not to race, but to have fun at a picnic to kick off the summer racing season.
The Orange Otters boast 125 swimmers including 15 in the six-year-old and younger category, a great addition to the future of the team.
Coach Joe Fischer is returning to the Otters as head coach with assistant coaches, Sheri Jacobs, Bethany Schwar and Scott Fischer. He will also receive help from the older swimmers on the team
Coach Fischer outlined the success he was looking for in the team, whether it be year-round swimmer 14- year-old Justin Barden shaving a few tenths of a second off of a best time and setting a new team record or nine-year-old Caroline Richards being able to swim all four strokes legally without being disqualified. All swimmers will see success in their summer swimming.
The racing season will commence with a meet against Chestnut Forks on Tuesday evening, June 23 at the Orange Country Town Pool. Additional meets will be Saturday June 26 at Culpeper Rec Club, Wednesday July 1 at Fauquier Springs Country Club, Tuesday July 7 against Culpeper Country Club at Orange, and Thursday July 9 at the Fauquier Swim Club. The Regional meet will be held at Orange on Wednesday, July 15 and the All Stars meet will be Saturday July 18 at Culpeper Rec Club.
Gators open summer season
The Louisa Gators swim team competed in their first meet of the summer June 11. The meet, orginially scheduled for June 10, was postponed due to thunderstorms. For many swimmers, this was their first meet. The swim team moved it’s home pool to Louisa earlier this year and increased the team size from 60 swimmers to over 100, with over 70 of those swimmers brand new to the Gators.
