D.J. Brown threw a complete game as the Orange County High School varsity baseball team scored nine runs over two innings to beat Charlottesville 10-4 Friday night in Orange.
Brown struck out 10 batters in the seven-inning contest, giving up six hits along the way.
The Hornets opened the scoring with a run in the home half of the first, but the Black Knights tied the game in the top of the third.
But Orange erupted for five runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to take a 10-1 lead. Charlottesville tacked on three in the sixth but by then, it was too late.
The Hornets pounded out 13 hits in the win.
Colston Bayless was 3 for 4 with a run scored and two runs batted in. Chris Bitner had two hits and drove in three runs.
The Hornets improved to 2-0 overall and are 1-0 in Jefferson District play.
Orange opened the season in impressive fashion, routing James Monroe 16-1 Wednesday night in Orange.
Brandon Morris drove in five runs with a triple and two sacrifice flies as the Hornets cruised to a season-opening win. Bitner had two hits, scored twice and drove in two runs.
Nick Bledsoe and Dillon Wagner combined to hold Jayem to three hits and one run, striking out seven.
The Hornets traveled to Culpeper Wednesday and to Fluvanna Friday.
