The Orange County High School varsity softball team has opened its spring season in overwhelming fashion, blitzing and blanking its first two opponents.
Friday night, Orange pitcher Micalah Sacre struck out 12 batters and gave up only one hit in blanking Rappahannock 11-0.
Tina Spencer got things going with a double to start the game and scored on Sacre's single.
Orange kept the pressure on in the second when Christy Myers reached after being hit by a pitch Alicia Blankenbaker singled. Spencer drove in Myers with her second hit and Sacre drove in Blankenbaker to give the Hornets a 3-0 lead.
Orange added another run in the third, two more in the fourth and five runs in the sixth.
Sacre finished with four hits and four runs batted. Spencer had three hits and a run batted in, while Heather Jenkins added three hits and two runs batted in.
Orange rapped out 15 hits overall and improved to 2-0.
A night earlier, the Hornets overwhelmed Charlottesville in a 17-0 shutout.
The Hornets batted around and scored six first-inning runs to cruise to victory.
Jenkins held the Black Knights scoreless and scored three runs to support her cause.
Catcher Paige Pritchett had three hits, including a home run and scored three times. Sacre had three hits and hit two home runs in the win.
The Hornets host Fluvanna Friday night in Orange.
