The OCHS girls tennis team closed out the Jefferson District regular season with two wins against Charlottesville in a doubleheader Thursday.
Orange won the first match 6-3, then whipped the Black Knights 8-1 to finish the season 10-4 overall and 5-4 in the district.
In the first match, Squires beat Chelliah 9-8, after taking a 7-4 tiebreaker. Hanley beat Woolworth 8-4 and Kotulka topped Jazouli by the same score.
Paine beat Jones 9-8 (7-3 tiebreaker), while Evans topped Klug 8-3 and Cox beat Bourke 8-6 as the two teams split singles play.
In doubles though, the Hornets swept the Black Knights for the win.
Squires and Hanley teamed to beat Chelliah and Woolworth 8-6. Kotulka and Jones beat Evans and Paine 8-3 and Donaldson and O'Sullivan beat Cox and Jazouli 8-5.
The Hornets had little trouble in the second match. Squires, Hanley, Kotulka and Jones all won 6-0. Bourke won 6-2, though Klug dropped her match 6-2 to Cox.
In singles, Squires and Hanley easily beat Chelliah and Woolworth again; Kotulka-Jones and Donaldson-O'Sullivan both breezed to wins.
The OCHS boys tennis team struggled in a doubleheader with Charlottesville last week. Regular rain forced the Hornets to face the Black Knights twice in the same match.
In the opening match, the Hornets lost 7-2. Things only got worse in the second match as Orange fell 8-0. The losses dropped Orange's record to 7-6 overall and 3-6 in the Jefferson District.
In the first match, Johnson and Chambers were the only Hornets to earn wins, though Kayajanian lost a close match 9-7 and Breeden lost 9-8 in a tiebreaker (7-5).
In the second match, Upchurch and Garr came the closest to notching wins for the Hornets, each falling by a score of 8-6.
