Track teams throughout the region had one more chance to post qualifying times and scores at Louisa's Last Chance meet Friday afternoon.
The Orange County High School girls 4 x 100 relay team placed fifth at the meet and posted a state meet-qualifying score. Nicole Givens, Christina Hairston, Gequetta Davis and Charnee Long ran 50.99.
The girls 4 x 400 relay team of Grace Newman, Kayla Jones, Hairston and Emani Combs also placed fifth in 4:28.62.
Overall, the Hornet girls were 19th with four team points. Courtland won the meet with 85 points.
The Hornet boys placed 13th with 10.5 points.
James Harris was the top Orange finisher, placing third in the discus (145' 8"), which qualified him for the state meet. Wayne Wright was sixth (130' 9") Friday.
The 4 x 800 relay team of Avery Powell, Jeff Taylor, Chris Lewis and Cody Johnson placed fifth (9:05.10).
The 4 x 100 relay team of Tevin Coker, Amir Waller, Jordan Anderson and Tyrone Ellis was sixth (44.49).
The Hornets have a number of Region II and State AA meet qualifiers already, in addition to those who met the standards Friday.
Orange competed in the Jefferson District meet Wednesday at Louisa and heads to the Region II meet next Wednesday, also at Louisa.
Hornet speedster Ashontae Jackson finished second Friday in the 400 at the Southern Track Classic, an elite meet for top track athletes in the mid-Atlantic region. Additionally, Jackson qualified for the Nike Outdoor Nationals June 18-20.
