The Orange County High School track teams traveled to Louisa Wednesday for the Jefferson District track meet. The Hornet girls posted an impressive fourth-place finish, while the boys placed sixth. Louisa's teams swept the meet comfortably, with the boys totaling 188.33 points and the girls 154.
The Orange girls had 64 points and the boys 35. Most of the participants from last Wednesday's meet competed this week in the Region II meet-also at Louisa. (After presstime).
For the Hornet girls, Ashontae Jackson posted two first-place finishes-in the 200 (25.55) and the 400 (58.43).
Emani Combs was second to Jackson in the 400, finishing in 1:01.32.
Combs teamed with Jackson, Christina Hairston and Kayla Jones to place third in the 4 x 400 relay (4:12.37).
Meanwhile, the girls' 4 x 100 relay team of Nicole Givens, Hairston, Charnee Long and Gequetta Davis also placed third (51.90).
Long finished third in the 100 meters, (12.91) and Hairston was fifth (13.16).
Davis was third in the long jump (15' 11").
The girls 4 x 800 relay team of Devan Kelley, Jessica Mandese, Zoe Klug and Grace Newman were fifth (11:48.85).
On the boys side, the 4 x 800 relay team (Patrick Curtis, Avery Powell, Chris Lewis and Cody Johnson) was the Hornets' highest finisher, placing second (8:50.35).
Lamar Gordon finished third in the 110 hurdles (15.68) and fifth in the 300 hurdles (43.64). Teammate Patrick Curtis was less than a second behind in sixth (44.17).
Curtis, Gordon, Lewis and Powell placed fourth in the 4 x 400 relay (3:35.34), while the boys' 4 x 100 relay team of Tevin Coker, Tyrone Ellis, Amir Waller and Jordan Anderson finished fourth in 45. 30.
Ellis placed fifth in the 100 (11.30) and Coker was sixth in the 200 (23.48). Lewis placed sixth in the 400 (53.73).
Wayne Wright was fourth in the discus (138' 11"), while teammate James Harris was sixth (131' 8").
Darrius Carter finished sixth in the shot put (47' 9").
