Orange's Taylor is 9th at district meet

Jeff Taylor finished ninth out of more than 50 runners Wednesday at the Jefferson District cross country meet at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville.
Taylor's ninth-place finish earned him a trip to Tuesday's Region II race, also at Panorama Farms.
The sophomore ran the 5-kilometer course in 17:49.79. Teammate Adam Sidelko was the next Hornet finisher, placing 26th in 19:19.55. Eric Sidelko was the third Hornet across the finish line, placing 45th with a time of 20:26.29.
Avery Powell was 46th (20:37.12), followed by Chris Lewis at 48th (20.54.39), Seth Penley in 51st (21:14.03) and Dustin Thomas 56th (22:53.50).
Louisa's Chris Springer was the top finisher of all the runners, covering the 3.1-mile course in 17:08.92.
As a team, the Hornets placed seventh out of the eight teams competing, with 174 points. Western Albemarle finished first (29), followed by Monticello (64), Louisa (87), Goochland (119), Charlottesville (125) and Fluvanna (131). The Hornets finished well ahead of last-place finisher William Monroe (238).
On the girls side, the Hornets placed four runners in the field but did not qualify for the team portion of the event because they didn't have enough runners in the race.
Lindsey Aylor was the top Orange runner, placing 31st in 24:46.71. Zoe Klug was just two seconds behind (24:48.55). Devan Kelley was 41st (26:48.14), followed by Jessica Hensley (29:32.80).
Western Albemarle's Emily Moffett won the girls' race in a time of 19:52.50.
Western also finished first in the team event (18), followed by Louisa (74), Fluvanna (84), Monticello (91), Charlottesville (113) and Goochland (160).
