The Orange County High School junior varsity field hockey team played the top team in the district Thursday night in Orange and battled to a 0-0 tie with Western Albemarle.
“Western Albemarle was not prepared for the fight the Hornets put up,” coach Steve Bowers said.
The first half of the game was played in the middle of the field, but the Hornets kept the Warriors on their heels in the second half, coach Bowers said. “Orange wouldn’t let up and kept on coming at them.”

Ultimately, the game ended in a scoreless tie.
“If you would have seen the game, you would have walked away knowing our girls are truly the top team not only in our hearts but in the district,” he added.
The Orange County High School junior varsity volleyball team split a pair of Jefferson District matches last week.
Tuesday night, the Hornets lost to Western Albemarle 2-0.
Two nights later, Orange hosted Charlottesville and blanked the Black Knights by the same score to improve to 9-4 overall.
It was another tough week for the Orange County High School junior varsity football team.
The JV Hornets traveled to Goochland, where the Jefferson District’s newest team blanked the visitors 12-0.
The loss dropped the Hornets—last year’s Jefferson District champions—to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in district play.
The Hornets hosted Louisa Wednesday night in Orange (after presstime) and visit William Monroe next Wednesday in Stanardsville.
