The Orange County High School varsity boys basketball team jumped out to a solid start, but a weak second half doomed their early effort and the boys lost 61-51 to Fluvanna Friday night in Orange.
The Hornets jumped out to an early 21-16 first-quarter lead that the Flucos were only able to decrease by one heading into the half (33-29).
The third quarter proved tough for the Hornets, who were outscored 12-7 and not only lost their lead, but also trailed 41-40 heading into the fourth quarter. In the final frame, Fluvanna (10-7, 7-3) outscored Orange 20-11 to pull away with the come-from-behind victory.
Josh Pugh led the Hornets with 16 points, followed by Jamal Hunter's 12. Tres Winler had seven and Tyler Seal six as the Hornets fell to 5-11 and 4-7 in the Jefferson District.
Orange's game Tuesday at Western Albemarle was cancelled because of the weather. The Hornets host Charlottesville Friday night on senior night--their last home game of the regular season-and travel to Monticello Tuesday for their regular season finale.
