The Orange County High School boys tennis team got a much-needed district win Tuesday with a 6-3 victory over the visiting Louisa Lions.
Top seed Daniel Myers blanked Beaver 10-0. Zak Mason fell to the Lions' Ameling 10-6 at the two seed and Copeland topped Orange's Billy Knabe 10-2. But Orange fourth seed Juan Londono thumped Sweasy 10-1 and Daniel Kost had little trouble with the Lions' Palmer, winning 10-2. David Woods' 10-3 win over Louisa's Miller gave the Hornets a 4-2 singles advantage.
In doubles, Myers and Mason beat Beaver and Copeland 10-4 among the top doubles teams. Ameling and Palmer beat Knabe and Santiago Kotulka 10-4, but Stephen Amaruos and Sam Kessler beat Purcell and Candeto 10-8 in their first doubles match.
The boys battled Goochland Thursday but came home disappointed with a 6-3 Jefferson District loss.
In singles play, Myers blitzed Douglas 10-1 in match-up of top seeds. Goochland's Foster had his hands full with Mason, but held on to win 10-8. Knabe beat Crouch 10-8, while Goochland's Jackson topped Londono 10-4. Martin shutout Kost 10-0 in a battle of five seeds and Branniff topped Woods 10-3 to give the Bulldogs a 4-2 advantage after singles play.
In doubles, Myers and Mason teamed to thump Douglas and Foster 10-2, but it was the Hornets' only doubles win. Crouch and Martin beat Knabe and Londono 10-4 and Jackson and Branniff beat Kost and Kotulka 10-5.
Orange is 3-3 overall and 1-3 in district play. The Hornets host Fluvanna Tuesday afternoon in Orange.
