The Orange County High School varsity baseball team was shutout and lost a disappointing non-district game in last week's action.
Thursday, the Hornets faced the Battlefield District leading Courtland Cougars, a team Orange had beaten earlier this season.
The Hornets opened with two runs in the top of the first when Lonnie Dillard walked and scored on Rahiem Cooper's double.
Cooper scored on David Dulin's single and the Hornets had a 2-0 lead before Courtland came to bat.
Orange added two more runs in the top of the third, when Cooper singled and scored on Austin Oliver's single. Jake Koontz drove in Oliver and Orange was up 4-0. But it wouldn't last.
Courtland rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth, only one of which was earned. The Hornets dropped two flyballs that led to four unearned runs.
A sixth-inning run finalized the scoring and sent the Hornets home with a 6-4 loss.
Oliver pitched into the fifth and was charged with five runs, four unearned. He struck out five.
Hosting Fluvanna last Tuesday, the Hornets struggled in a 6-0 Jefferson District loss. Fluvanna's Z. Crawford limited the Hornets to just four hits in the shutout.
Orange traveled to Charlottesville Tuesday and hosts Monticello Friday and Goochland Tuesday night at Porterfield Park in Orange.
