This year's Tri-County Track Meet will be held Saturday, Sept. 17 at Culpeper's Eastern View High School. All residents of Culpeper, Madison and Orange counties, ages 4-79 are invited to compete in the event.
There will be six running events and three field events. Running events include: 50 meter, 100 meter and 200 meter sprints, 400 meter, 800 meter and mile runs. Field events include: long jump, shot put and softball throw.
Competitors will be divided into the following age groups: 4-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79.
A medal will be awarded to first, second and third-place finishers in each age group as soon as results are reported. (No long waits in the hot sun this year!)
Each competitor in the meet will be running, throwing or jumping not only for themselves, but also for their county. Each win nets three points for their home county, each second-place finish is good for two points and each third is good for one.
The county at the end of the meet with the most points will be given the Tri-County Winner's Trophy and will retain it until the 2012 meet.
