The Orange County High School varsity girls soccer team earned an exciting 6-2 win Monday night over visiting Goochland.
Though the Bulldogs scored the game's first goal, the Hornets retaliated with a cross by Alexis Donahue that Jamie Barr put into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.
Then, Mandy Cronin scored on a rebound from Taylor Bennett's shot that hit the post to give Orange a 2-1 lead. Cronin added a second goal to give Orange a 3-1 lead before the half.
After the break, the Hornet offense continued to pressure Goochland with Barr giving Orange a 4-1 lead.
The Bulldogs responded with a goal to make it 4-2, but Orange's Deven Petty showed impressive dribbling skills as she worked the ball up the field and kicked a successful pass to Alexa Eclipse who scored.
Eclipse finished the game with a direct kick from 40 yards out, sweeping the top netting for an unforgettable goal in a 6-2 victory.
Emma Chronister and Sami Fields only had to block four shots on goal throughout the whole game thanks to the help of defenders and players of the game Keeley Jones and Nqobile Mtethwa.
In action last week, the Hornet girls dropped a pair of 4-1 decisions to Monticello.
In the first loss, the Hornets got a first-half goal from Anna Bosworth on a Christina Nammack assist. Chronister made 25 saves in goal for Orange.
