Tennis team struggle against Knights, Mustangs

The Orange County High School boys tennis team dropped three Jefferson District matches last week, falling to Charlottesville twice and Monticello once.
Facing the Black Knights last Tuesday, the Hornets lost a rain-shortened 6-0 match with only singles matches completed.
Thursday, the Hornets faced Monticello and lost 8-1. Only top seed Daniel Myers posted a win, comfortably beating the Mustangs' top-seeded Cho 10-4.
Monday night, the Hornets hosted Charlottesville again in a rematch and fell 7-2.
Myers beat Angle 8-6 while Daniel Kost and David Woods teamed to beat Gilbert and Graves 8-4 in the third-seeded doubles match.
Orange is 3-8 overall and 1-8 in the district and hosts Goochland Tuesday before visiting Louisa Thursday.
The girls also had a tough week with losses to Charlottesville and Monticello.
Facing the Black Knights last Tuesday, the Hornets were competitive in most matches, but notched only one singles win and a lightning-shortened doubles win to fall 7-2.
Sixth-seed Brooke Chapman topped Sciboze 11-10 in the Hornets' lone singles win, while Rebecca Eichmann and Megan Fowler teamed to beat Squillace and Sciboze in doubles.
Visiting Monticello Thursday, the Orange girls came home on the wrong end of a 9-0 score. Chapman battled Samantha Yarbrough to a tiebreak in the closest singles match but fell 11-10.
The Hornets are 4-10 overall and 0-9 in Jefferson District play and host Louisa Thursday.
