The Orange County High School boys tennis team won a couple of Jefferson District matches last week over Goochland and Louisa.
Thursday night, the Hornets visited Louisa and came home with a 6-3 win over the Lions.
Daniel Myers beat Beaver 10-2, but Billy Knabe fell to Ameling 10-5 and Juan Londono lost to Copeland 10-1. Daniel Kost beat Palmer 10-2 before Purcell topped David Woods 10-4. Stephen Amaruso's 10-4 win over Candeto gave the Hornets a split in singles play.
With a doubles sweep, the Hornets won the match.
Myers and Knabe teamed to beat Beaver and Copeland 10-6, while Londono and Kost beat Ameling and Palmer 10-4. Woods and Amaruso had little trouble with Purcell and Swasey, 10-2.
Earlier in the week, the Hornets battled Goochland with a tie match coming down to the final doubles match.
In singles play, Myers beat Douglas 10-1, but Knabe fell to Birt 10-6. Zak Masom beat Foster 10-4 and Londono beat Long 10-5. Crouch edged Kost 10-8 and Jackson slipped past Woods 10-7 as the two squads split singles play.
Again, it would come down to doubles.
Myers and Mason had little trouble with Birt and Foster, winning 10-4. In the second-seeded doubles match-up, Knabe and Londono dropped a close one to Douglas and Martin 10-7, leaving the match hanging on the Kost-Woods and Jackson Branniff doubles match.
The Orange duo won 10-6 securing the victory for the Hornets.
Orange's overall record is 5-8 and 3-8 in the Jefferson District. Orange visits Fluvanna Thursday and Jefferson District Tournament play begins next week.
