The Orange County High School girls tennis team posted a pair of wins last week that moved the girls out of the district cellar.
Tuesday night, the Hornets beat Goochland 7-2 and Thursday, the girls topped Louisa 8-1. The wins improved Orange to 6-9 overall and 2-9 in the Jefferson District.
"It's been a tough season and we've been hit with a lot of injuries," Orange coach Jay Allen said. "The girls have really fought through it."
Facing the Bulldogs Tuesday, Rebecca Phipps, Isabel Schuller, Maddie Scott and Rebecca Eichmann all posted singles wins for the Hornets. In doubles play, Rachel Donaldson and Phipps, Schuller and Scott and Eichmann and Megan Fowler all won their matches.
Against the Lions Thursday, Donaldson cruised to a 10-1 win over Logan and Phipps topped Seay 10-7. Schuller had no trouble with Candeto 10-2, but Kronander upended Scott 10-4. Eichmann topped Jenkins 10-5 and Brooke Chapman beat K. Logan 11-9.
In doubles, Donaldson and Phipps won 8-1 over Logan and Washington. Schuller and Scott teamed to beat Kronander and McMahon 8-5 and Eichmann and Fowler beat Jenkins and Leistra 8-1.
The Hornets’ last regular season match is Thursday.
