The Orange County High School varsity baseball team had a tough week, dropping two Jefferson District games as the regular season comes to a close.
Facing the Hornets Tuesday in Orange, William Monroe broke a 3-3 tie with five runs in the final two innings to win 8-3.
Orange fell behind early, giving up runs to the visiting Dragons in each of the first three innings. But the Hornets plated two in the bottom of the third and a run in the fourth to knot the game at 3-3.
Two Monroe runs in the sixth gave the Dragons the edge and three more in the top of the seventh secured the victory.
Austin Oliver took the loss for the Hornets, throwing five innings and striking out seven, but walking 10.
Brent Pitts had two doubles and Zak Reininger had two hits, including a home run and two RBI.
Facing Fluvanna Friday in Palmyra, Orange fell behind early and couldn't catch up in a 9-3 loss.
Orange held the Flucos to just six hits but helped them with six errors leading to three unearned runs.
The Flucos did all their damage in the second (four runs) and third (five runs) and coasted to victory.
Rahiem Cooper had three hits for Orange, including a home run.
Orange was scheduled to wrap up its regular season with a game Tuesday at Western Albemarle but that game was cancelled and will not be made up. District tournament play begins Friday. The Hornets are 5-8 in Jefferson District play.
