The Orange County High School varsity girls soccer team had a full week of district action last week.
The Hornets opened the week with a trip to Stanardsville and came home with a 4-2 win over the homestanding Greene Dragons.
More than midway through the first half, Taylor Bennett scored on a corner kick from Alexis Donahue to make it 1-0, Orange. Then, Maggie Barber added another goal for the Hornets, increasing their lead to 2-0 before the break.
In the second half, Barber took a Mandy Cronin pass and notched her second goal to give Orange a 3-0 lead.
The Dragons struck back with two second-half goals, but Barber's cross to Jamie Barr who found the back of the net gave the Hornets a two-goal advantage they'd maintain for the balance of the game.
Kristin Baker played solid defense for the Orange girls, helping get the ball up the field for the offense.
Tuesday's momentum ended quickly for the girls in an 8-0 loss to Fluvanna. Christina Nammack and Aliyah Linatoc played well for Orange in the loss.
Looking to get back on track Monday, Orange, hosted Western Albemarle and lost 3-2 in a weather-shortened match.
Barr took a Kara Carter pass and scored the game's first goal two minutes into the game.
After a Warriors' score knotted the game at 1-1, Carrie Jacobs found Barr on a breakaway and her goal gave the Hornets a 2-1 lead it would take into halftime.
Western rallied for two goals in the second half to take a 3-2 lead, but overall the Hornets battled the Warriors throughout the contest before lightning shortened the match with seven minutes remaining.
Emma Chronister had 28 saves in goal and Jacobs and Sarah McKay played solid defense throughout.
The Hornets were scheduled to face Charlottesville Tuesday in the regular season finale but the game was cancelled. District tournament play begins later this week.
