The Orange County High School varsity boys soccer team opened Jefferson District Tournament play with a solid win over William Monroe Friday, but lost 4-0 in the semifinals to Western Albemarle Tuesday night at Monticello.
Facing William Monroe Friday night in Orange, the fourth-seeded Hornets doubled up the fifth-seeded Dragons 6-3.
Orange got two goals and an assist from senior Josh Pugh as the Hornets improved to 11-5-1, 9-5-1 and advanced to face top-seeded Western Albemarle Tuesday.
Orange played a solid defensive first half Tuesday, keeping the Warriors out of the net and earning a 0-0 halftime tie.
Less than two minutes into the second  period, Western's Avery Walker crashed into Orange goalie Hunter Ferguson, knocking the Hornets’ keeper out with an injury.
Backup Jacob Pugh filled in admirably, but the top-seeded Warriors wore down the Orange defense to the tune of four second-half scores.
Forrest White scored the only goal the Warriors would need at the 32:45 mark. White added another goal before  Ian Dusci and Kevin Salazar found the back of the net for the Warriors.
Western will face Fluvanna for the Jefferson District title.
The Hornets will play a consolation game to determine if they advance to the Region II tournament.
