Coach Lewis's U8 Up Tempo football team recently read an article in Sports Illustrated for Kids about the death of Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald's mother in 2003 from breast cancer. In addition, they also learned that Coach Lewis' mother-in-law was also fighting this disease. Thus, the kids banned together to wear pick socks and laces to bring awareness to the issue and to support breast cancer awareness. It was particularly moving because among second and third-grade boys pink generally is a "girl" color.
