LOW FIRE-RESCUE GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Lake of the Woods Volunteer Fire & Rescue is holding its annual golf tournament Friday, Sept. 30 at 9 a.m. at the LOW course. The cost is $70 per player or $260 per four-person team, which includes 18 holes, a cart and lunch. There will be separate longest-drive and closest-to-the-pin prizes for men and women. There also will be a 50/50 raffle and raffles for golf equipment. The start will be shotgun and the format, captain's choice. FISHING TOURNAMENT
The annual Joseph Thomson Adult/Youth Memorial Tournament will be held Sunday, Oct. 2, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sturgeon Creek Marina in Spotsylvania. Each individual team consists of two youth fisherman, not age 19 prior to Oct. 2, 2011, and one adult boat captain. Teams must provide their own boat. Registration will be held 5:30-6:30 a.m., followed by blast-off at 7 a.m. Weigh-in will begin at 1:30 p.m. The fee to enter is $40 per team or $20 per youth. Boat captains are free. Tournament profits will be donated to the Joseph Thomson Memorial Fund. Make checks payable to the OCHS Anglers. There will be a golf tournament Oct. 7 at Rivanna Golf Course. The cost is $240 per team. Lunch will be provided along with prizes for first, second and third place. HABITAT GOLF
TOURNAMENT
The 11th annual Meadow's Farms Golf Course Orange County Habitat for Humanity/Stellar One Bank golf tournament will be held Oct. 7 with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Participants will play the Waterfall 9 and the Island Green 9. Ladies will play the forward tees and men will play from the white tees. Prizes are available for first through fourth place as well as closest to the pin, closest to the line, longest drive and a putting contest. Also, a hole-in-one on hole 8 on the Island Green wins a new car courtesy of Herndon Chevrolet in Orange. The cost is $65 for an individual which includes green fees, cart and lunch; $200 for a fairway sponsor which includes two players, green fees, cart and lunch; and $400 for a tournament sponsor, which includes four players, green fees, cart and lunch. Free range balls will be provided for practice. Mulligans are $5 each or three for $10 at the course. GOLF TOURNAMENT
The first annual tournament to benefit the Orange County High School varsity golf team is Sat., Oct. 8, starting at 9 a.m. at Lake of the Woods Golf Course. Cost to enter is $200 per team. The format will be four man Captain's Choice and players have the chance to purchase two mulligans and one red tee ($5 each). Prizes will be awarded to 25 percent of the field. Food will be served after the tournament (included in entry fee). Funds raised will be used to help send players to camp and buy golf equipment.
BENEFIT SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT
A benefit softball tournament will be held at the Orange Sports Complex at Booster Park Saturday, Oct. 8. Cost is $100 per team. HUNTER EDUCATION CLASS
There will be a free hunter education class conducted at the War Memorial building in Madison Saturday, Oct. 8 and Sunday, Oct. 9, 1-6 p.m. Pre-registration is required and attendance both days is required for certification. This course is open to anyone and provides instruction in basic hunter safety, principles of conservation and sportsmanship. Hunters under the age of 16 and first time hunters 16 and older must complete the course prior to purchasing a hunting license. Youth 12 and under can only attend if accompanied by an adult.
