The Orange County High School Anglers held their 2011 awards banquet and handed out prizes for the top performers and performances for the past year.
Devon Bowling was named the angler of the year, while Jacob Dodson was the JV angler of the year.
The top 10 varsity anglers in 2011 (based on weight caught) were: Kevin Beasley, Bowling, Franklin Marrs, Dylan McGhee, Dodson, Austin Clore, Kasey Henshaw, Tyler Pritt, Steve Mundell and Greg Browning.
The team also presented nine varsity letters. To achieve a letter, Anglers had to participate in 70 percent of the 35 tournaments and 70 percent of the team’s conservation and public service events, as well as fishing in one state tournament and maintaining appropriate academic performance. Those receiving a letter included: Bowling, Marrs, McGhee, Dodson, Clore, Henshaw, Pritt and Jordan Rhoades.
The Anglers also recognized their sponsor of the year, presenting the award to McGhee Brothers Construction of Orange. Boat captain of the year was Wayne Dorman, of Mineral, who not only traveled to all of the Anglers’ 11 in-state tournaments, but also traveled to Florence, AL and Kerr Lake, NC with the team.
