The Orange County High School swim team posted a stellar performance at the Northwest Regional swim meet Saturday. The Orange boys finished sixth out of 26 teams and Justin Barden picked up a regional title along the way. The Hornet girls placed 18th overall.

Coach Ryan Campbell was excited to report each of the team members who participated in the regional tournament placed and scored. Additionally, the Hornets continued to set school records with three more falling for a total of 19 new OCHS marks this season. And, two more state-qualifying times were established and three more personal bests recorded.

Barden highlighted the meet with his win in the 100 backstroke (52.75) just ahead of teammate Alex Montes De Oca, who placed fourth (54.56 to qualify for the state meet). Barden also finished second in the 200 individual medley (1:57.90), just .16 seconds out of first. Montes De Oca (1:58.95) was third.

Meanwhile, Ryan Hofmann was third in the 100 butterfly (a state-qualifying 54.12) and John Marquis 13th in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.07).

The boys 400 freestyle relay team of Barden, Ethan Cluff, Hofmann and Montes De Oca finished fourth (3:24.14) and set a new school record by four seconds. The 200 free relay team (Montes De Oca, Cluff, Hofmann and Barden) finished fifth in 1:31.94.

The boys 200 medley relay team of Tanner Kelson, John Marquis, Hofmann and Julian Ciskanik was 14th (1:50.37).

As the only Hornet girl at the meet, Larissa Neilan helped the Hornets to the 18th-place finish all on her own.

She was fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.02) and eighth in the 200 individual medley (2:13.88) and set new school records in both by nearly a second.

Coach Campbell reported that Hofmann swam a personal best in the 100 butterfly, Ciskanik swam his best time in his leg of the 200 medley relay and Cluff swam his best relay splits in the 200 and 400 free races by nearly a second in each.

This weekend, Barden, Marquis, Hofmann, Montes De Oca, Kelson, Cluff and Neilan will all compete in the state AAA swim meet this weekend at George Mason University.
