The Orange County High School indoor track team was back in action Tuesday afternoon (results unavailable as of presstime) at a polar bear meet in Louisa. It was the Hornets' first action since a Commonwealth District tri-meet Dec. 20 at North Stafford with Mountain View.
For the girls, Jillisa Burke had a solid meet, earning six of the Hornets' 10 points as the Orange girls finished third.
Burke ran third in the 55 meter dash (8.44), just ahead of teammate Tyeshia Shelton (8.74). Burke also ran third in the 300 (49.04) and finished third in the girls high jump, clearing 4'2".
Shelton, meanwhile, finished third in the long jump (11'3") while teammate Isis Fuller was fourth with a jump of 9'7 ½".
Fuller also ran fifth in the 55, with teammates Sianna Burgos and Stephanie LaConia sixth and seventh, respectively, while Amanda Berube was sixth in the 1600.
The Orange boys also finished third.
The Hornets' 4 x 200 relay team placed second (1:44.14), while Eric Sidelko took third in the 3200 (10:40.44) just three seconds behind the winner. Trenton Day was fourth in the 300 (39.34).
Other Hornets participating included Russell Waters, who was fifth in the 55, Josiah Jenkins (ninth in the 300), Andre Linton (13th in the 300), Levar Turner (14th in the 300) and Trevonne Jackson (17th in the 300). Cecil Tiblins was fifth in the 500 and Patrick O'Connor was fifth in the 1600. Kevin Hill and Marcellus Duncan finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the shot put.
The Hornets head to the Fred Hardy Invitational at Fork Union Jan. 14 and the Mid-Area Track Classic Jan. 20 in Lynchburg.
