The Orange County High School swim teams have spent much of the last week in the pool.
The Hornets competed in four meets in seven days and continued to establish themselves as a force in their new AAA Commonwealth District.
The Orange boys won their meet Jan. 17 against Fluvanna, Louisa and Madison. Three nights later, the boys lost close meets to Colonial Forge and were edged by Riverbend Saturday night. Monday, the boys finished their season with wins against both Massaponax and Brooke Point.
“The boys team dominated their meets, winning 42 of the 55 events they swam over the last seven days,” coach Ryan Campbell noted.
Along the way, the Hornets continued their trend of setting school records at each meet.
In the last four meets, Justin Barden set a new school record in the 200 free and in the 100 free, while Larissa Neilan broke the school’s 100 free record for girls. The Hornets have set new school marks 14 times this season.
Meanwhile, the Hornets also achieved five new regional qualifying times, with Neilan qualifying to compete in the 100 free and 100 fly, Barden in the 100 free and 200 free and Alex Montes De Oca in the 100 back. The Hornets have 23 regional meet qualifying times this season.
Also, 14 Hornet swimmers posted personal bests in 21 events during the last week of action, marking 94 bests achieved this season.
Archie Crowe set new bests in the 100 fly and 100 back, while Daniel Hyden posted his best time in the 100 free. Hayley Gunnett swam her fastest 100 back and 200 individual medley and Ryan Hofmann registered his best 200 free and 50 free. Theresa Bulik posted her best 200 free and 100 free times, while John Marquis recorded his fastest 200 IM time. Julian Ciskanik posted personal bests in the 200 IM and 50 free, while Ethan Cluff topped his best 50 free time. Brandon Carr set a new high in the 100 free, Tanner Kelson in the 500 free and John McQuaid in the 100 breaststroke. John Register posted his fasted 100 free time, Zach Miksovic his fasted 200 free and 400 free times and Kenny Daniel recorded new personal bests in the 100 fly and 100 back.
They boys and girls teams are back in action at the Commonwealth District championships Feb. 4.
