Orange County High School wrestlers bested eight other area high schools at the 14th annual Warrior Invitational Wrestling Match Saturday at Henrico High School.
Orange amassed 229 points to comfortably win the title over Varina (189), Meadowbrook (162) and Armstrong (138).
Along the way, the Hornets had four wrestlers crowned weight class champions, three runners-up, two more third-place finishes and one fourth.
Isiah Coleman-Combs pinned Armstrong’s Jerry Hall and John Marshall’s Tieshamse Baker to claim the 103-pound division.
Kirk Sweeney pinned Manchester’s Roger Causey, topped Woodrow Wilson’s Wanya Clifton in a major decision 12-0, beat Varina’s Tyler Kubicki 17-1 and blanked Varina’s Dylan Kendrick to win the 132-pound division.
Sean Raftery cruised past Meadowbrook’s Shammah Waller 15-0 and beat Woodrow Wilson’s Junior Nkamanyong 16-1 and Varina’s Thomas Dodd 8-2 to take top honors in the 160-pound class.
Orange’s other champion was 170-pound Zach Ryder who pinned Meadowbrook’s Hayden Harris and beat Woodrow Wilson’s Travis Brown 10-2 on his way to the title.
Meanwhile, Orange’s Mike Benner finished second in the 145-pound division, while Taylor Rudnick was second in the 152-pound class. Tyler Dodson took second among 195-pounders.
Will Roberts (120) and Bruce Schlegel (138) placed third for the Hornets and Trevor Payne (182) was fourth.
The Hornets face Fluvanna, William Monroe and Louisa on the road Wednesday and travel to Warren County Saturday.
